Messages for Agie

Joicy George

Friend

How do I say goodbye to someone who felt like both a sister and a spark? Agnes, you were intelligent in a way that made others feel smarter just by being near you. You were beautiful inside and out. And you were mine — a close friend and colleague who made work feel like play and hard days feel bearable. I keep reaching for my phone to text you, then remembering. I will carry your laughter and your wisdom with me forever. Rest gently, my friend.

44 is no age at all. There was so much more life for you to live, so many more people for you to inspire. But maybe that's the cruelest part of sudden loss — it reminds us how lucky we were to have you for even that long. Thank you for every coffee break brainstorm, every late-night honest talks, every time you made me believe in myself. I will be your role model now, the way you were mine.

You were the kind of person who made everyone around you better, Smarter, Kinder, & More alive. And you did it without ever trying. That's rare. That's you. I am heartbroken, but I am also so grateful I got to call you my friend and colleague. Agnes, watch over us, okay?

"I was deeply saddened to hear about your passing. You were more than a lecturer—you were someone who truly saw your students, encouraged us, and left a lasting impression on our lives. I will always cherish the photograph you captured of me on my graduation day. It wasn’t just a picture; it was a moment you preserved with such care, and it reflects the way you supported and believed in your students. That memory means even more to me now. Thank you for your guidance, your kindness, and the passion you brought into teaching. You will be greatly missed, but never forgotten."

Family

When I was 13, I went on a family holiday to Spain. Agnes was taking care of me, because my mother wasn't present. On this particular day we went to the beach and my cousins wanted to go parasailing and I told her I'd like to join them. After the fun of parasailing, she told me my pocket money was gone because it had paid for my parasailing( for réference on all my previous holidays pocket money was used for small things such as souvenirs and snacks, it was never used towards activities) So i felt shocked, because if i had known beforehand I would have chose to miss out on the experience rather than lose all my money without knowing. I began arguing with Agnes shouting "YOU TRICKED ME". After that day I vowed she would never blindside me again

Years later, And Agnes became someone I depended on for a lot of things. She sat with me and assisted with my personal statements, interview practices and offered to help with univeristy assignments. She told me she would be at my graduation, I carried that promise. And in doing so she had blindsided me once again.

Now these two memories live side by side in my heart, one of childhood anger and the other of adulthood loss. Both of something meaningful being taken away too soon, but where there was once anger there is now sorrow. Because I would give anything to be blindisided by her once again.

In short Agnes taught me very valuable lessons that I still live by to this day. She was a teacher even outside of the classroom. She'd pour life and wisdom into you and always put the needs of others before herself. I am blessed to have had you as a cousin Agnes .

Agnes ! I still cannot find words !!! I'm yet to graduate and you was top on my list for my graduation party ! How I wish I had the powers to bring you back to life !

I started university when my daughter was 10months I didn't think I could do it ! you believed in me more than myself and you made everything possible and encouraged me so so much. I could never thank you enough for your great work , passion & generosity , love you more than you will ever know beautiful soul , until we meet again .

She was more than a lecturer. She was a guide, a steady presence, and for many of us, a source of comfort during moments when we needed it most. I speak personally when I say that her support went far beyond the classroom. She saw people—not just students—and she gave her time, her patience, and her kindness without hesitation. In doing so, she changed lives in quiet but lasting ways.

At the university, she was an extraordinary asset. Her dedication to her work, her passion for teaching, and her genuine care for those she taught created an environment where people could grow—not only academically, but as individuals. She didn’t just share knowledge; she inspired confidence, resilience, and hope. The impact of that cannot be measured in grades or achievements, but in the countless lives she helped shape.

Agnes.

Though my heart aches after the loss of you, I am extremely proud to have been able to call you my big sister. Your time with us was short and sweet just like you. I will look for you in every room that shares smiles and hear you in every laughter that holds joy.

What a tender and nourishing love you must have carried to be held in such high regard by so many. Your cup truly runneth over, your wisdom knew no bounds and your capacity to care was never empty. Every moment with you was more special than the last and built to withstand the test of time.

Agnes was life itself! She went after it with everything she had, passion, conviction and action! I am devastated at this loss, it has left a sudden unexpected gap. Yet, I am thankful she graced this world and grateful to have known her. Fly high beautiful angel, fly high onto those planes that are hidden from us where we shall meet again one day! You are much loved, forever 💜💜💜

Dear Agnes,

It’s difficult to find the right words, and saying goodbye is even harder. You meant so much to me — an extraordinary friend and colleague, with the heart of a nurse and the mind of a scholar. You gave both so freely.

Your commitment to teaching and shaping the next generation of nurses will live on in every student you inspired and supported.

I will always remember your kindness to me personally. During some very difficult moments in my role as Royal College of Nursing President, you noticed. You reached out with words of encouragement and support at exactly the right time. That meant more than I ever said.

You stood firmly for equity, diversity and inclusion — not just in words, but in how you lived and worked. You loved people well, through your humour, your warmth, and your generosity.

And I will never forget your style — your love of purple, your heels and boots, and your beautiful hair. You brought presence, confidence, and light wherever you went.

You will be deeply missed, Agnes — as a nurse, an academic, a teacher, a colleague, and my friend.

Thank you for everything you gave to me — your knowledge, your wisdom, your care, and so much more. I will remember you in my prayers always, and I will keep your family in my prayers too.

With love,

Sheila Sobrany

"Agnes was such a delightful, passionate, positive, and caring colleague, and will be sorely missed by all those who worked closely with her and experienced her energy. It was a pleasure to have Agnes within the School of Life and Health Sciences at Roehampton, such a dedicated team player with so much experience and expertise to give to our students. She had a bright future ahead, with a drive for continued learning and leadership, it is so very sad to see a wonderful life cut so short. I will always remember what Agnes brought to our lives and hold close the kind and loving nature that she shared with us all."

"Oh, Agnes, I am so heartbroken by your loss. I only met you a few times, yet you stayed with me in a way I did not expect. Some people do that, they don’t need time, just truth. And you were full of it. I miss your optimism, your humour and your kindness. Your voice still echoes in my ears, warm and familiar. See all these messages from your friends and your students. You gave more than you probably ever realised. Thank you, Agnes, for the joy you shared so freely, for the happiness you spread, for the way you lifted others without even trying. You will be remembered, not only for what you did, but for how you made us feel."
